Artwalk Program

The Artwalk program is possible under the non-profit status of the Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce.
The Chamber provides the following services:  accounting services (billing, collection, banking & P/L), a dvertising costs , booking entertainment , distribution of balloons and maps , delivery of other promotional material, flyers, maps, etc. to all galleries, B & Bs and hotels in PG and Monterey , purchase of wine license from ABC in Salinas , insure locations serving wine , list event on Chamber calendar of events and mail it to 700 business in PG, Monterey, Carmel & Pebble Beach , coordinate and pay for website.

Fees and billing

The current fee is $50 per Artwalk to participate and benefit from the many services of our non-profit sponsor, listed above.

You will be billed for your fee. Again, the Chamber will bill your business for the fees. This is a new policy. Your bill can be paid in monthly payments.

Commitment

Because it will help in planning and marketing, we are strongly urging a commitment to participate in the remainder of the Artwalks this year. This will allow us to create materials more economically and plan more intelligently.

Please commit to participating in the September, October, November, and December Artwalks by signing up. You will be billed.

Artwalk funding, supporters, and sponsors

The Artwalk is funded by a combination of money from the City and money collected from fees of participants. We are looking for more sponsors and supporters. Please use your knowledge of the community to recruit more sponsors and supporters. Currently, Carmel.com is our only supporter, graciously and generously providing banners to those participants who commit to the rest of the Artwalks.

Deadlines

The Chamber needs to tell the ABC who is serving wine 15 days before the event. Including processing time within the Artwalk organization, this means that your commitment/signup deadline is: AUGUST 29 for the September Artwalk.

IMPORTANT: Your signup includes submitting all of your information and images for the upcoming Artwalk. This information is needed for press releases, map, website, and advertising. It is crucial that we get this on or before the deadline date. (Deadlines for info and images for other 2007 Artwalks: Oct: Sep 26; Nov: Oct 30; Dec: Nov 27)

Please note that advertising design, website updates, and some marketing materials are created by volunteers and so your cooperation in meeting deadlines is important.

Communications Policy

In order to minimize confusion, please use only the following email address for communicating:

artwalk@pgartwalk.com

Billing questions only should be directed to the Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce: 831-373-3304

Legal requirements for those Serving Wine

Those participants who will serve alcohol must follow this simple, legally-approved procedure:

1) Customers must have a lapel sticker (provided by the Chamber) to be served wine.

2) Customers may "purchase" a sticker from participating galleries by dropping a payment into a glass bowl (provided by the Chamber).

Example: A customer comes into the gallery and wants a glass of wine. The owner checks to see if the customer has a sticker on his/her lapel. If they do, they may have a glass of wine. If not, they are invited to drop an amount, any amount, into the "donations" bowl. They are given a sticker. The sticker is good for any Artwalk venue for the night. Individual galleries are allowed to either keep the money collected or donate it to the Artwalk funds.

Banners

Our supporter, Carmel.com, will provide a full-color Artwalk banner for those businesses committing to all Artwalks for the rest of the year.

Volunteer Opportunities

The "kiosk" has received good reviews in the last two Artwalks. Perhaps you have seen the simple tablecloth-covered card table and chair at the corner of Lighhouse and Forest. Here you can put your cards and other promotional materials. Many, many people stop here and pick up maps and postcards. Use it; this is a very high-profile bit of marketing.

But a better setup is needed and a volunteer to sit there for an hour or so to run it. So, if you or a friend have a good table and umbrella to offer, we can certainly make a better presentation. The kiosk needs someone to set it up and take it down and volunteers to man it. Please help find volunteers.

We would like to begin offering a couple of guided Artwalk tours by Fall. This can be as simple as a volunteer taking a group of 3 or 4 couples around to several of the venues. If you or someone or group you know would like to develop the guided tours, please contact artwalk@pgartwalk.com

We also need a Webmaster. Webmaster duties include updating the website under the direction of the PG Chamber and/or the Artwalk Facilitator. This is a technical position only and does not necessarily include direct communication with participants. Qualified candidates are proficient in HTML, DreamWeaver, and other web-centric programs. Contact artwalk@pgartwalk.com if interested.
